The Taser Pulse, A Compact Self Defense Gadget That Packs A Punch

The company Taser International announced a new electronic control device (ECD) at the 2016 SHOT Show. The personal defense weapon is made for non-law enforcement usage and is called the Pulse. Compared with the existing C2 weapon designed for civilian use, the Pulse is pistol shaped and is a link between the C2 and also the X26 commonly utilized by police departments.

Taser intended the Pulse to be more of an intuitive use device since many individuals are acquainted with the way a gun works. It offers a low profile thumb safety and angled sights to make it a lot more amenable to concealed carry. The replaceable cartridge possesses a 15' range.

Much like the X26, the device features a built in red laser for aiming. Moreover, the system uses a LED white light for lighting. Based on my experience with the X26 in actual deployments, I found the laser performed well.

Like the C2, the Pulse is built to deliver a varied electrical pulse over 30 seconds. The idea is this will permit the user to leave the scene in the event the probes are appropriately deployed. This is different from the devices sold to law enforcement where the pulse length is a lot less: 5 seconds.
